Gamma-Ray Burst Detection with INTEGRAL/SPI
نویسندگان
چکیده
The spectrometer SPI, one of the two main instruments of the INTEGRAL spacecraft, has strong capabilities in the field of GammaRay Burst (GRB) detections. In its 16 field of view (FoV) SPI is able to trigger and to localize GRBs with an accuracy for strong bursts better than 1. The expected GRB detection rate is about one per month.

Gamma-ray Burst Localization with Integral in the Interplanetary Network
We discuss the utilization of INTEGRAL as a gamma-ray burst detector in the interplanetary network. IBIS will have an inherent GRB detection and localization capability. However, the SPI anticoincidence shield will also be a sensitive burst detector which, in conjunction with other spacecraft, will make it possible to localize three to four times more bursts than IBIS alone. This capability wil...
متن کاملThe 1 st INTEGRAL SPI - ACS Gamma - Ray Burst Catalogue
We present the sample of gamma-ray bursts detected with the anti-coincidence shield ACS of the spectrometer SPI on-board INTEGRAL for the first 26.5 months of mission operation (up to Jan 2005). SPI-ACS works as a nearly omnidirectional gamma-ray burst detector above ∼80 keV but lacks spatial and spectral information. In this catalogue, the properties derived from the 50 ms light curves (e.g., ...

The SPI anticoincidence shield consists of 91 BGO crystals and is operated as a nearly omnidirectional gamma-ray burst detector above 75 keV. Since the start of the mission 269 gamma-ray burst candidates have been detected. 110 bursts have been confirmed with the instruments included in the 3rd Interplanetary Network. Here we present a preliminary statistical analysis of the SPI-ACS sample of g...
متن کاملA GRB Detection System using the BGO-Shield of the INTEGRAL-Spectrometer SPI
The anticoincidence shield (ACS) of the INTEGRAL-spectrometer SPI consists of 512 kg of BGO crystals. This massive scintillator allows the measurement of gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) with a very high sensitivity. Estimations have shown that with the ACS some hundred gamma-ray bursts per year on the 5 σ level can be detected, having an equivalent sensitivity to BATSE. The GRB detection will be part o...
متن کاملGamma-Ray Bursts Observed with the Spectrometer SPI Onboard INTEGRAL
The spectrometer SPI is one of the main detectors of ESA’s INTEGRAL mission. The instrument offers two interesting and valuable capabilities for the detection of the prompt emission of Gamma-ray bursts. Within a field of view of 16 degrees, SPI is able to localize Gamma-ray bursts with an accuracy of 10 arcmin. The large anticoincidence shield, ACS, consisting of 512 kg of BGO crystals, detects...
